Playing the Game
King First
Now that everything is set up you are finally ready to play the game.  Sanguosha is a turn based game where each player gets a turn in the order that they are sitting at the table.  This does not mean that you cannot do anything if it is not your turn.  Many abilities take place during other players' turns.  This gives you the chance to help or interfere with their designs.

The King always goes first.  After that turn in completed, the person to the right takes their turn.  Play continues to the right for the remainder of the game.

Each turn consists of six phases.  Each phase may have a significant amount of activity or nothing at all.  These phases are: Beginning Phase, Judgment Phase, Drawing Phase, Action Phase, Discard Phase, and Ending Phase.

Beginning Phase
Beginning Phase
This phase is usually involved with different powers.  This is when when things happen "at the beginning of your turn...".  For example, Zuo Ci can use "Incarnation" here to change his powers.  This is also where many awakened abilities happen.
Judgment Phase
Judgment Phase
This is the phase where all of the pending cards are dealt with.  These are dealt with in the reverse order in which there are place on the character.  It works as if the pending cards 'stack' on top of each other in front of that player.  For example, if Guan Yu is targeted with a Capture and then a Starvation and finally the Lightning moves onto him, he will do the judgments in the reverse order.  He will perform the Lightning judgment first, then the Starvation, finally the Capture.  If a player does not have any pending cards, they do not need to perform anything in this phase of their turn.
Drawing Phase
Drawing Phase
This is the phase in which each character draws cards for their turn.  Players normally draw two cards in this phase.  This can be affected by their or other's abilities, however, allowing them to draw more or fewer cards than two.  Also, if a player falls victim to Starvation, they would lose this phase in their turn and not be able to draw cards here.
Action Phase
Action Phase
This is the phase where most of the playing is done.  Here, players can play cards from their hand or use character abilities.  Players can use any number of tool, basic, or equipment cards, but they are limited to one attack during this phase.  Players can also use their cards in any order.  This allows them to time and react to how their opponents react to their actions.  There is neither a limit nor a requirement to do anything during a player's action phase.  They can use every single thing that they have, or do absolutely nothing.  If a player is affected by Capture, they lose this phase in their turn and cannot do anything here.
Discard Phase
Discard Phase
This phase is towards the end of a players turn where they may be forced to lose some cards.  A player is allowed to keep only as many hand cards as they have health.  This means that if someone has four health during their discard phase, they can hold up to four cards at the end.  Someone is allowed to have fewer cards than health, but they may not have more.  Again, they are many abilities that affect the number of cards that a player can hold.
Ending Phase
Ending Phase
This phase is very similar to the Beginning Phase and is involved with powers.  This is when when things happen "at the end of your turn...".  One of these is Cao Ren.  These powers happen after the discard phase and when this phase is done, the next player starts their turn with their Beginning Phase
