![]() | Liu Xie 劉協 Emperor Xian of Han 汉献帝 Royal Grace 皇恩 When a tool card is played that targets multiple characters, Liu Xie can choose one targeted character. This character is not affected by the tool card and draws one. Revive the Han 汉统 At the end of his discard phase, Liu Xie can place his discarded cards on his character card. These are Imperial Edicts. At the beginning of his turn, Liu Xie can discard an Imperial Edict and choose one of the following king abilities: Escort, Fierce General, Rescued, and Bloodline. Liu Xie ignores the country prerequisite, and keep this ability until his next turn. |
Clarification:
- Below is a table that explains the tool cards on which Liu Xie can use "Royal Grace" and the final effect after the ability is used:
Tool Card | End Result |
Barbarians | Liu Xie can select any character targeted by this card (the user is not targeted), they draw one card, and they are not prompted to play an Attack. Note that in a one-on-on situation, if Liu Xie is the only character targeted by this card he cannot use "Royal Grace." |
Hail of Arrows | Liu Xie can select any character targeted by this card (the user is not targeted), they draw one card, and they are not prompted to play an Escape. |
Peach Garden | Liu Xie can select any character targeted by this card (including the user), they draw one card, and they do not recover one unit of health. Note that Liu Xie can target a character that is at full health before the card is played, as it targets all characters, damaged or at full health. Note that in a one-on-on situation, if Liu Xie is the only character targeted by this card he cannot use "Royal Grace." |
Harvest | Liu Xie can select any character targeted by this card (including the user), they draw one card, then X-1 cards are flipped over, X being the number of characters in play. The rest of the characters take one card in the order of the turns. |
Coerce | It is debatable if Liu Xie is allowed to use "Royal Grace" on this card, but the most recent version of QSGS allows him to. Liu Xie can use "Royal Grace" on the character with the weapon to allow them to draw one card. They are not prompted to play an Attack and they do not lose the weapon. He can also use this ability on the character that the target must attack. The target must play an Attack or lose the weapon, but if they do, the target of the Attack is not prompted to play an Escape and they suffer no damage. |
Chains | If two characters are targeted by Chains, Liu Xie can use "Royal Grace" to prevent the effect from happening on one of them and they draw one card instead. Note that if only one character is targeted by Chains, Liu Xie cannot use "Royal Grace." |
- Liu Xie can use "Royal Grace" on himself or any other character targeted by a tool card that also targets other characters.
- Liu Xie can use "Royal Grace" when tool cards are played by himself or other characters.
- Below is a table that explains the king abilities that Liu Xie can temporarily acquire via "Reunification of the Han":
Ability | King | Explanation |
"Escort" | Cao Cao | This ability allows any Wei character to play an Escape when Cao Cao needs one. When Liu Xie acquires this ability, any character of any country can play an Escape for him. |
"Fierce General" | Liu Bei | This ability allows any Shu character to play an Attack when Liu Bei needs one or wants to use one. When Liu Xie acquires this ability, any character of any country can play an Attack for him. |
"Rescued" | Sun Quan | This ability heals Sun Quan two units of health when another Wu character heals him with a Peach from the brink of death. When Liu Xie acquires this ability, he is healed two units of health when any other character of any country saves him from the brink of death with a Peach. |
"Bloodline" | Yuan Shao | This ability increases Yuan Shao's hand limit by two for each Hero character (other than himself) in play. When Liu Xie acquires this ability, his hand limit increases by two for every other player. |

Notable Combinations:
- Cao Cao/Yuan Shao/Xun You/Zhu Rong - These characters have abilities that allow them to more frequently use Barbarians, Hail of Arrows, or other tool cards that target multiple characters. Liu Xie can protect himself or his teammates from these cards (or potential reduce the benefit of these cards to enemies) via "Royal Grace."
- Younger Zhuge Liang/Zhen Ji/Zhao Yun - These characters have abilities that allow them to more easily play Escapes. These abilities are useful to Liu Xie when he acquires Cao Cao's "Escort."
- Guan Yu - Guan Yu's "Fighting Saint" allows him to use any red-suited card as an Attack. This is useful to Liu Xie when he acquires Liu Bei's "Fierce General."
- Hua Tuo/Han Dang - These characters have abilities that allow them to more easily play Peaches. This is useful to Liu Xie when he acquires Sun Quan's "Rescued."
- Ma Chao/Guan Yu/Yan Liang & Wen Chou/Xu Sheng/Ma Dai/Guan Xing & Zhang Bao/various others - These are some examples of characters who have abilities that increase the power of their Attacks or can play Duel easily. Liu Xie has no defense against these cards because they are not tool cards that target multiple characters.
King | Liu Xie is a strong king choice. He has his choice of four different king abilities and his loyalists do not have to worry about picking a character of the same country as his own. More importantly, "Royal Grace" is useful in protecting himself or his allies from tool cards. |
Loyalist | Liu Xie is a good loyalist. He can protect the king from tool cards that target multiple characters. |
Rebel | Liu Xie is a competent rebel. He can protect his allies from tool cards, though it is important to note that there are typically more rebels than any other character card, so it is more difficult for him to keep everyone alive via "Royal Grace." |
Spy | Liu Xie is a serviceable, but not outstanding spy. "Royal Grace" is useful in keeping himself alive and he can protect members of the weaker team, but with no offensive abilities, it is difficult for him to affect the gain quickly. |
Final Remarks:
Although Wang Yuan Ji is the standout character of the four released DIY characters, Liu Xie may very well be the best. "Royal Grace" is like a more useful version of Yang Xiu's "Box of Cake," as it is applicable in so many more situations. In certain situations, "Reunification of the Han" is useful, but most of the time it is just a novelty. When using him, you can always feel free to use tool cards that target everybody because you can protect your friends and prevent your enemies from benefiting from Harvest and Peach Garden.
